We are pleased to announce the Special Issue “Processing–Microstructure–Property Relationships in Non-Ferrous and Functional Alloys” in the international peer-reviewed journal Materials (MDPI).

The Special Issue belongs to the section “Metals and Alloys” and is open for manuscript submissions until 20 March 2027.

This Special Issue focuses on recent advances in understanding the relationships between processing, microstructure, and properties of non-ferrous and functional metallic alloys. Particular emphasis is placed on aluminum- and copper-based alloys, shape memory alloys, and other advanced metallic materials relevant to lightweight structures, energy-efficient technologies, smart systems, and demanding engineering applications.

The Special Issue welcomes experimental, computational, and combined studies investigating how processing conditions influence grain refinement, crystallographic texture, precipitation, phase transformations, defect structures, and degradation mechanisms. Contributions addressing mechanical, functional, tribological, corrosion, and electrochemical performance are particularly encouraged, provided that a clear relationship is established between the processing route, resulting microstructure, and material properties.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Alloy design, casting, solidification, and additive manufacturing of aluminum- and copper-based alloys;
  • Heat treatment, thermomechanical processing, and severe plastic deformation;
  • Grain refinement, texture evolution, precipitation, and defect structures;
  • Phase transformations and functional behaviour of shape memory alloys;
  • Mechanical, tribological, corrosion, and degradation performance;
  • Advanced characterization, computational modelling, and data-driven alloy design.

Particular interest is placed on advanced characterization techniques, multiscale modelling, computational alloy design, and data-driven approaches supporting microstructure engineering and the development of advanced metallic alloys.

The Special Issue is edited by Dr. Przemysław Snopiński, Silesian University of Technology, Poland, as Guest Editor, and Dr. Lovro Liverić, Faculty of Engineering, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia, as Guest Editor Assistant.

Researchers, academics, and professionals from industry are warmly invited to submit research articles, review articles, and short communications related to the scope of this Special Issue.

The deadline for manuscript submissions is 20 March 2027.

Further information about the Special Issue, submission guidelines, and manuscript preparation requirements is available on the official Materials Special Issue webpage.

We encourage researchers and colleagues working in the fields of non-ferrous alloys, functional materials, materials processing, microstructural characterization, and advanced manufacturing technologies to submit their latest research and to share this Call for Papers within their professional networks.
